Wait a second! We are not talking here about bla in bla ma, bla med, and so on, but as a verbal adjective (or Zustandsverb), meaning “one would rather ... than.” In Tibetan it is explained as rung or chog. See Go-shul, gNa’ rtsom (p. 210, n. 23). But I feel that the actual sense is rendered better by English “one would rather ... than” or German “lieber  ... als.”

E.g. shi’ang bla’i srog gcod pa ni ma yin no || One would rather die (oneself) than kill (others).
